Nibbles: The Book Monster-A Chomping Good Book

Nibbles: The Book Monster By: Emma Yarlett.

Looking for a book that will get your kids motivated to read? Here's your book! The title alone will make a child wonder what this "book monster" is and what he does. This book has become one of my all time favorites with kids of all ages. It is recommended for children ages 6 and up but I haven't found an age between 2 and 9 that haven't loved this book.

Quick Summary

Nibbles is this adorable yellow monster with horns and pointed teeth. Nibbles loves to nibble anything but his favorite thing to nibble on is BOOKS! In the story, Nibbles nibbles his way through 3 classic fairytales and changes the outcome of the story. When I say literally, I mean there are holes in the book where it depicts he nibbles through to the next page. The kids find this hysterical (as do I!). The book also has books within the book! I love the clever and creative way the author introduces children to the classics: Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood, and Jack and the Beanstalk. The book is incredibly interactive through various sized text, flaps, and cutouts and kids can't wait to turn the page to see what Nibbles does next!

Speech and Language Skills

While reading and after reading, there are numerous speech and language targets you can address. One of my favorites is to sequence the chain of events-he escaped, he nibbled through story 1, story 2, and so on. You can also address story recall, compare and contrast (classic fairytale endings vs. Nibbles fairytale endings), WH- questions, basic concepts (size, position, etc.), categories, thematic vocabulary, emotions, inferencing, predicting- and that's just to name a few! This book is a must have for children of all ages!
