Spring into Speech Therapy Fun: Bunny-Themed Activities for April!

Happy April, friends! šŸ‘‹šŸ¼

Spring is in the air, and the thought of Spring Break has me feeling extra energized. I donā€™t know about you, but these next few weeks can feel like a push to the finish line, so Iā€™m all about making therapy sessions fun, engaging, and full of movement!

If youā€™ve been following along with my emails, you know I usually share a favorite activity or resource each week. But this time, I had so many ideas that I just couldnā€™t pick oneā€”so Iā€™m sharing my full plan for the next couple of weeks instead!

Bunny-Themed Speech Therapy Fun! šŸ°

This year, Iā€™m all about bunnies. Why? Because a bunny theme is flexible and works for everyone! Whether you incorporate Easter, egg hunts, or just a general spring vibe, itā€™s an easy way to keep kids engaged and make learning feel like play.

Books Iā€™m Using This Week šŸ“š

I love using books in my sessions, and these two are perfect for a bunny-themed week:

Too Many Carrots by Katy Hudson
This is a go-to for my elementary students! Itā€™s packed with opportunities to work on sequencing, foreshadowing, and even articulation targets. Plus, the illustrations are adorable, and my kids love talking about all the different animals in the story.

How to Catch the Easter Bunny by Adam Wallace
For my older students, I like to keep things engaging with a little more complexity. The ā€œHow to Catchā€ series is always a hit in my speech room, and this one is perfect for spring! We work on problem-solving, predicting, and comprehension strategies while having fun with the playful storyline.

Activity Idea: Speech Therapy Stuffer Craft šŸŽØ

I love incorporating hands-on activities to keep my students engaged, and this craft is a favorite! Hereā€™s how it works:

  1. Print & Prep: I use my Easter/Spring Speech Therapy Stuffer Craft, which includes both language and articulation targets. I print out the appropriate pages for each childā€™s goals and cut out a bunny to attach to a tissue box or paper bag.

  2. Fill the Eggs: I place their speech targets inside plastic Easter eggs (aka ā€œcarrotsā€) and scatter them around the classroomā€”or outside if the weather is nice!

  3. Egg Hunt Fun: Students hunt for the eggs and ā€œfeedā€ the bunny by putting their carrots in the bunnyā€™s mouth after completing their target.

Why Eggs? šŸ„š

Egg hunts are a simple way to get kids moving and make speech sessions feel like play. Even my middle schoolersā€”who can sometimes be tough to engageā€”perk up when I mention an egg hunt. Thereā€™s something about the mystery of whatā€™s inside that keeps them motivated!

Tips & Tricks for a Smooth Speech Egg Hunt

  • Color Code the Eggs: Give each child a specific color to hunt for so that everyone gets the right targets.

  • Add a Special Surprise: I like to put a ā€œtreat ticketā€ in one egg as a fun surpriseā€”this could be a sticker, a small prize, or something simple like extra bubble-blowing time (which is always a crowd-pleaser!).

  • Encourage Teamwork: Have your speech group work together to fill the bunny. Once heā€™s ā€œfull,ā€ he can leave a small group reward like stickers or a special game turn.

Spring is the perfect time to add a little extra energy and creativity to our sessions. I hope this gives you some fun, easy ideas to try in your speech room!
